I Know That God’s Word Is Right But Somebody’s Wrong

Over the course of 30 plus years, I have noticed that for many, the office and title of Pastor has become a means to an end. It has become a career and a vocation. It has become a way to become famous and wealthy.  In some instances it is a vehicle to achieve self-importance, boost self-esteem or hide prior bad acts.

I have noticed that the field of ministry has been inundated and flooded with folks with questionable morals, fornicating backgrounds and hidden agendas. They want others to think that they have been called, sent, anointed and appointed when it fact they are liars, deceivers, vindictive pretenders, injured and damages souls who have not yet owned up to their immoral behaviors before seeking to hide their true nature under the camouflage of the titles or positions of pastor, evangelist, elder, bishop, prophetess, preacher or apostle. They deceive themselves and others into thinking that they are something that they are not. They depend heavily upon image, public perception, religious ceremonies, academic credentials and certificates of ordination for their sense of authority and self-worth. But they are not converted (Born of the water and of the Spirit) or commissioned by God to do anything for Him or in His name. (Ezekiel 13)

What is even more astonishing is the fact that they are apparently unaware of their condition.

Let us hear what the Word of God says about such individuals.

“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’…For such men are false apostles, deceitful workers, disguising themselves as apostles of Christ. No wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. Therefore it is not surprising if his servants also disguise themselves as servants of righteousness, whose end will be according to their deeds.” (Matthew 7:21-23 and 2 Corinthians 11:13-15)

The Word of God identifies the servants of Satan as those who enter the ministry under false pretense and those who have not been born again according to the commands of God.

Be careful who you listen to and follow. Don’t let every entertaining spirit and emotionally charged rhetoric deceive you. Test the spirit to see if it is from God. God has an order and a way that doesn’t change because He doesn’t change. He is the same yesterday, today and forever.

If you are listening to someone who hasn’t surrendered to the commands and order of God and who doesn’t line up with God’s Word, leave them alone. Work out your salvation with fear and trembling. Obey the Word!

THIS MAY HURT A LITTLE

When we want someone to represent us in court and communicate our concerns, we want the best educated and gifted lawyer that our money can afford.

When we send our children to school, we expect them to learn how to speak and write correctly using the rules of grammar.

Our own African-American heroes like Dr. Martin Luther King, Medgar Evers and Malcolm X all spoke and wrote using the rules of grammar correctly, colorfully and effectively.

So why are we tolerating and sometimes celebrating the broken grammar of some of our rappers, gospel singers, entertainers, public speakers and preachers?

Is it because we are afraid of the intellectuals or is it because we are most comfortable remaining in ignorance?

When I was growing up, the public speakers and church leaders were held to a high standard of grammatical excellence and intellectualism whereas they were held up as examples of perseverance and effective communication that we should aspire to emulate. But who are we following now?

Are ignorance, vulgarity, cursing, broken grammar and ineffective communication skills the legacy that we wish to pass on to the next generation?

I personally have grimaced in shock and disappointment as I listened attentively to a noted Reverend Doctor Bishop who butchered the English language in the presence of school children and adults. Are our intellectual and academic benchmarks so low as to bestow the sublime credentials of Reverend Doctor and Bishop upon those who cannot conjugate a verb or make a verb and subject agree?

There is nothing shameful about illiteracy as long as it isn’t a condition of choice but of circumstance. However, in today’s society, there are just too many educated fools running around with titles but no substance. There are far too many credentials without credibility.
