Repent luke 13

Praise the LORD to all.

Today I am not going to talk about the damning sins that we have all been taught about and have been admonished about repeatedly such as sexually immorality, idolatry, adultery, men who have sex with men, women who have sex with women, debauchery, drunkenness, lewdness, profanity, lust, pride envy, anger, gluttony and slothfulness.

Today I want us to realize that we don’t go to hell and damnation because we drink wine or liquor. We don’t go to hell and damnation because of what we smoke or inhale. We don’t go to hell and damnation because of what we eat or drink. These things are very subjective and personal. The manner in which all of these things are done or used may determine whether or not if they are detrimental or harmful or sinful.

Thomas Aquinas wrote that “Nothing is intrinsically good or evil, but its manner of usage may make it so.”

The Holy Scripture indicates in Romans 14:23 that if a man doubts what he is doing or participating in is right then it is sin for him because it doesn’t come from faith.  And Titus 1:15 tells us that “To the pure, all things are pure, but to those who are corrupted and do not believe, nothing is pure.”  In other words, everything a person may drink or eat isn’t sin but their attitude and beliefs toward that thing may make it sin for them.

The world of Christendom, including Catholicism, has created a variety of cultural, taboos, laws, customs and traditions that have nothing to do with salvation or the Living Word of God but more to do with what serves society and politics.  Many have clouded the issue and definition of sin with their own moral agendas and philosophies.  A thorough study of Christian Church History will bear this out. (Recommended resource: A History of the Christian Church by Williston Walker)

Today I want us to come to realize that we don’t go to hell and damnation because of what our society or churches say is sin. They are too varied and corrupted to depend upon them for the Truth. Much like politicians, they are always changing and modifying their messages and doctrines to accommodate the desires of their constituents.

We go to hell and damnation because we will not repent. We will not die to sin. We will not agree with God’s Word and repent and be born of the Water and of The Spirit in the name of the Holy Messiah. We will not Trust and Obey God. That is why we are damned to hell.

We don’t go to hell and damnation because of what we put in our bodies. We are judged by what comes out of our hearts and souls. It is the condition of our hearts and souls that dictate our behavior, our conversation, our attitudes and our ultimate destination.

Don’t get it twisted! I am in no way advocating for the abuse of food and drugs and alcohol.  However, no substance, whether artificial or natural, that is ingested in the body will send our souls to hell. It is our refusal to repent that damns us.

21 “I hate, I utterly loathe your festivals;
I take no pleasure in your solemn assemblies.
22 If you offer me burnt offerings and grain offerings,
I will not accept them;
nor will I consider the peace offerings
of your stall-fed cattle.
23 Spare me the noise of your songs!
I don’t want to hear the strumming of your lutes!

Amos 5:21-23 (CJB)

In today’s culture of tolerance and acceptance, the Christian Faith is portrayed as a religion that accepts anything and anyone just as they are.  But the prophet Amos tells us something totally different.

I recommend that you read the book of Amos and ask the Holy Spirit for revelation into its message for us today.

The initial revelation that was shared with me out of the Book of Amos is this:

“You cannot worship God or give a gift or an offering while being disrespectful, offensive, confrontational, argumentative and disobedient. Your offering is as offensive as you are and both you and your gift will be rejected.” (O.W. Prince)
