We can be guilty of murder without ever touching someone. According to the strict definition of the root word for “murder,” our untruthful or vengeful gossiping may murder someone.
Anytime we hinder a person’s ability to make a living, support themselves or break, bruise or crush someone’s reputation and/or spirit, we may be guilty of murder. Murdering is a spirit and goes deeper than the actual taking of a life but it involves the premeditated hateful destruction of a person’s reputation, name, spirit and soul.
“Anyone who hates a brother or sister is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life residing in him.” (1 John 3:15)
“Envy, murder, drunkenness, reveling and all such things; those who are committing these things, as I said to you from the first, I say now also, that they shall not inherit The Kingdom of God.” (Galatians 5:21)
