There are many people in this world who are preoccupied with keeping man-made traditions which have the appearance of godliness. Some of their traditions are so strongly adhered to that if anyone breaks one of them they are considered a transgressor – a sinner.
Jesus had occasion to address this erroneous way of thinking when the Pharisees asked him why his disciples ate with unwashed hands for this offended (transgressed) the traditions of the elders. (Matthew 15:1-2)
Jesus’ response was not what they were expecting for he said “That which cometh out of the mouth – That which springs from a corrupt unregenerate heart – a perverse will and impure passions – these defile a man and make him a sinner.
This Week’s Word
Jesus said, What goes into a man’s mouth does not make him ‘unclean,’ but what comes out of his mouth, that is what makes him ‘unclean…But things that come out of the mouth come from the heart, and these make a man ‘unclean’. (Matthew 15:11,18 NIV)
This Week’s Prayer
Father, it is in the name of the LORD YeHoWsHua* (Jesus Christ) we pray. Examine our hearts today and reveal to us any areas of our lives that we need to change. Please forgive us for every unfruitful, evil, unclean word that proceeded out of our unclean hearts. We repent today of all of our sins. Create in us a clean heart, O God, and restore a right spirit within us. Help us to be slow to speak and quick to listen. Empower our words with your Holy Spirit that they may show forth a heart like thine. This is our prayer in the name of the LORD YeHoWsHua* (Jesus the Christ), Amen.
